The Spanish media world has been riveted by the abuse saga surrounding Maria Celeste Arraras, sometimes called the Katie Couric of Spanish-language television, reports Richard Huff in the New York Daily News

Arraras called 911 on May 28 at 1 a.m., saying her boyfriend was trying to "kill" her and asking for police to help. She claims on the tape that her boyfriend had hit her and tried to choke her, the article says.

Arraras, 49, said on her Telemundo show days later that it was an "isolated" incident and an "embarrassing topic," the report adds. Her boyfriend was charged with assault and cocaine possession, and Arraras has continued to work as the case proceeds.

The abuse saga comes as the Hispanic community is increasingly aware of domestic violence, the story says.
