TV Productions to New Jersey: Keep our (Tax) Credits Rolling

Jun 10, 2010  •  Post A Comment

Television producers and directors are urging New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to reconsider ending the 20 percent tax credit offered by the state since 2006, reports the Associated Press

Representatives from "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" and "Mercy" asking Christie to rethink the plan during a hearing chaired by state Senate Budget Appropriations Committee Chairman Paul Sarlo, a Democrat who supports the tax credit.

The hearing took place in the warehouse where "Mercy" had been filmed. While the show was cancelled by NBC, its potential for getting picked up by a cable network was hampered because of uncertainty over the New Jersey tax credit. Christie, a Republican, has vowed to cut the tax credit from the state budget, which must be passed by July 1.
