The latest larger-than-life actor to join ABC’s "Desperate Housewives" is a Broadway and movie star, as well as an Emmy nominee, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Lainie Kazan, best known as the mother in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "My Favorite Year," has been cast in a multi-episode arc as a neighbor and shop owner who becomes involved with Teri Hatcher’s character, Susan.

Kazan was nominated for an Emmy for a guest role in “St. Elsewhere” in 1988.
