Fox Wins the Night With World Series Opener; ‘Modern Family’ Is Top-Rated Show

ABC’s “Modern Family” was the top show of the night Wednesday in the Nielsen overnights for the 18-49 demo, even though Fox had Game One of the World Series, TVbytheNumbers.com reported.

Fox easily won the night overall, both in adults 18-49 and in total viewers.

At 8 p.m. Game One of the Series, featuring the San Francisco Giants and the Texas Rangers, had a mean score of 4.65 in the 18-49 demographic for the hour, ahead of CBS’s "Survivor" with a 3.4 average rating in the 18-49 demo. ABC’s "The Middle" and "Better With You" earned a 2.8 rating and a 2.5, respectively, in that demo for the top and bottom of the hour; NBC’s "Undercovers" trailed with a 1.35 average rating in the 18-49 demo, just a tad better than CW’s "America’s Next Top Model," which had a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demo for the hour.

At 9 p.m. "Modern Family" was tops with a 5.1 in the 18-49 demo, but its lead-out in the bottom half of the hour, "Cougar Town," was only able to log a 3.3 rating in the same demo. Game One remained strong with a 4.45 average in 18-49 for the hour. CBS’s "Criminal Minds" had a 3.4 in the same demo for the hour, while CW’s "Hellcats" was last with a 0.95 in the 18-49 demographic.

CBS’s "The Defenders" had a mean score of 2.15 in the 18-49 demo for the 10 p.m. hour, ahead of ABC’s recently canceled "The Whole Truth," which had a 1.2 average rating in the 18-49 demo for the hour.
