ABC’s ‘Modern Family’ Tops Wednesday Ratings; CBS Wins Night Overall

ABC’s “Modern Family” continued its strong ratings performance Wednesday night, finishing as the night’s top-rated show in the 18-49 demo, TVbytheNumbers.com reported. But CBS easily won the night overall, on the strength of “Survivor” and “Criminal Minds.”

For the night, CBS was No. 1 in adults 18-49 with an average rating of 3.0, beating out NBC (2.4 rating), ABC (2.4), Fox (1.9) and Univision (1.6). CBS had an even wider margin in total viewers, averaging 12.3 million for the night, well ahead of NBC (7.1 million), ABC (6.9 million), Fox (5.5 million) and Univision (3.97 million).

At 8 p.m. "Survivor" averaged a 3.55 rating in the 18-49 demographic, up against ABC’s "The Middle" and "Better With You," which had a 2.5 rating and a 2.2, respectively, in the same demo. NBC’s first hour of "The Sing-Off" averaged a 2.4 in the 18-49 demo, and Fox’s "Human Target" averaged a 1.6 in the same demo for the hour. Trailing was CW’s "Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show" with a 0.95 average in that demo.

At 9 p.m. ABC’s "Modern Family" collected a 4.1 rating and "Cougar Town" a 2.6 in the 18-49 demo. CBS’s "Criminal Minds" logged a 3.45 average rating in 18-49, while hour two of "The Sing-Off" had a 2.85 in the same demo. Fox’s "Hell’s Kitchen" averaged 2.3 in the same demo for the hour and CW’s "Fashion Forward: Making It" only managed a 0.35 average in the 18-49 demo.

The 10 p.m. hour was won by CBS’s "The Defenders" with a 2.05 in the 18-49 demo, airing against repeats on ABC and NBC.
