The first round of "Jeopardy!’s” computer-versus-human match is in the books, with two more rounds to be completed tonight and Wednesday night, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Technology blog.
Round one ended in a tie. IBM’s Watson supercomputer tied with human contestant Brad Rutter, with each scoring $5,000 in winnings. Ken Jennings, the other human contestant, was behind with $2,000, the story says.
Jennings, who has previously won 74 consecutive "Jeopardy!" matches, defeated Watson in the practice match leading up to the three-game match, the story says.
The story points out that Watson made some missteps, including repeating a wrong answer that had previously just been given by Jennings. Host Alex Trebek responded, "No, Ken already said that," the story notes.
