Strong Premiere for ‘Secret Millionaire’ Helps ‘Housewives,’ ABC in Sunday Ratings

A strong premiere for "Secret Millionaire" provided a boost for ABC and for the show’s lead-out, “Desperate Housewives,” in the Sunday night Nielsen ratings, with ABC coming out on top for the night in the 18-49 demo, according to TVbytheNumbers.com.

ABC finished the night with a 2.7 average rating in adults 18-49, beating CBS (2.4 average), Fox (2.3) and NBC (2.1) in a close four-way race. CBS squeaked out a win in total viewers, averaging 10.9 million to 9.8 million for ABC, 6.4 million for NBC and 5.0 million for Fox.

At 7 p.m. ABC’s "America’s Funniest Videos" was just a touch better than CBS’s "60 Minutes," 1.8 to 1.7 in the 18-49 demo, followed by NBC’s "Dateline" with a 1.4 in the same demo.

The debut of "Secret Millionaire" at 8 p.m. logged a 3.3 average rating in the 18-49 demo, while CBS’s "Amazing Race" netted a 2.7 in the same demo. Fox’s "The Simpsons" and "Bob’s Burgers" had a 2.8 average and a 2.3, respectively, also in the 18-49 demo. The premiere of NBC’s "America’s Next Great Restaurant" attracted only a 1.6 in that demo.

At 9 p.m. ABC’s "Desperate Housewives" was up 10% from its previous original episode and led the hour with a 3.4 average in adults 18-49, followed by Fox’s "Family Guy" (3.1 average) and "Cleveland Show" (2.3). CBS’s “Undercover Boss” averaged a 2.7 and the first hour of NBC’s new season of "Celebrity Apprentice" had a 2.5, both in the 18-49 demo.

At 10 p.m. hour two of "Celebrity Apprentice" led the way for NBC with a 3.0 in the 18-49 demo, ahead of CBS’s "CSI: Miami" (2.4) and ABC’s "Brothers & Sisters” (2.2).
