ABC has decided to renew a freshman sitcom despite soft ratings for its midseason run, Deadline.com reports. The network also announced pickups of seven new dramas and five new comedies.
ABC is bringing back comedy “Happy Endings,” a move that will apparently keep Damon Wayans Jr., one of the show’s leads, out of the Fox comedy “New Girl,” in which Wayans appeared in the pilot.
Among the comedy pickups announced today: “Suburgatory,” “Work It,” “Man Up,” “Apt. 23” and Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing.”
Drama pickups announced by the network are “Good Christian Belles” (a name change from “Good Christian Bitches”), “Charlie’s Angels,” “Once Upon a Time,” “Pan Am,” “Revenge,” “Scandal” from Shonda Rhimes and “The River.”
ABC also announced it is canceling “Brothers & Sisters” and “V,” according to The Hollywood Reporter, along with four freshman series: “Detroit 1-8-7,” “Mr. Sunshine,” “No Ordinary Family” and “Off the Map.”

Sad to see Detroit 187 get cancelled. It was a quality drama. Unfortunately, Networks have difficulty supporting those anymore as they don’t get the ratings they used to. With all of the reality competition shows on the Networks, the old joke about lowest common denominator is no longer a joke.
