Cable Talk Show at Risk of Cancellation After Ratings Slip

With the cable talk show landscape becoming increasingly crowded, one cable network is taking its time deciding the fate of one of its high-profile shows.

“Lopez Tonight,” the TBS talker hosted by George Lopez, may not be around for a third season, Variety reported. Instead of getting a vote of confidence from Turner, Telepictures Productions was informed that the network needed more time to determine whether it will OK another season of the Lopez show.

TBS expected "Lopez Tonight" to get a boost in the ratings with "Conan" as a lead-in, but that hasn’t panned out. After a brief bump in ratings in late 2010, numbers have been slipping across key demos.

A decision on "Lopez Tonight" doesn’t have to be made until August. A third season would launch in November, if TBS gives Lopez and company the thumbs-up.

Variety added that no comments were forthcoming from Turner, Telepictures or representatives of George Lopez.
