NBC Wastes No Time Naming a Replacement for Dick Ebersol

With the news of Dick Ebersol’s resignation as the top sports exec at NBCUniversal still fresh, the company has already lined up his successor, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Mark Lazarus, formerly a top exec at Turner Broadcasting, will take over the job. Lazarus had been groomed for the position since the Comcast takeover earlier this year, but the move was not expected to take place this soon.

Ebersol and Comcast had been trying to forge a new contract, but were unable to come to terms, the story says. Ebersol’s future role with the company was among the issues.

As reported earlier, Ebersol has been more than a sports exec at NBC, playing key roles with “Saturday Night Live” and “Today” and being a part of the decision to move Conan O’Brien out of the coveted “Tonight Show” chair.

  1. It sounds like NBC was “pushing” Dick right on out the door. Just saying…
