A 17-year-old Chinese student has reportedly sold a kidney to get money to buy an iPad 2, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Technology blog.

Citing reports published in China, a student identified as Zheng reportedly responded to a broker who offered to pay about $3,100 for his kidney, the story notes. The boy returned home with a laptop and an iPad 2, which his mother noticed as well as a deep red scar on his body.

He confessed his actions, and his mother went to the police, who so far haven’t been able to find the organ broker, the story reports.
