In a pairing that sounds like a punch line, a TV evangelist who was caught up in a gay sex scandal involving crystal meth will swap wives with an actor who has had his own relationship and substance troubles, reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker blog.

The setup is for an episode of the new reality series "Celebrity Wife Swap," where actor Gary Busey and evangelical pastor Ted Haggard will swap wives, according to the story.

The two men do have a few things in common: Both are spiritual — Busey is a born-again Christian and Haggard is the founder of a nondenominational church — and both have had the media spotlight on them under difficult circumstances — Busey for drugs and for arrests involving domestic violence, Haggard for the 2006 gay sex and methamphetamine scandal.

Haggard will appear with his wife, Gayle, although it’s unclear whether Busey’s "wife" will be his girlfriend Steffanie Sampson, who is the mother of his infant son, the story says.

Busey is an old hand at “celebreality” shows, having already appeared on “Celebrity Apprentice” and “Celebrity Rehab.”
