ABC has added a mafia-themed drama based on a 2009 Italian series to its development slate, reports Deadline.com.

"Anti-Mafia Squad" is being produced by ABC Studios, with David Hollander (“The Cleaner”) writing the script, the story reports. Hollander is also executive producing with Mediaset, the distributor of the original Italian series, along with Little Engine’s Gina Matthews and Grant Scharbo and Fluent Media’s Raul Mateu, the story says.

The original drama wrapped its third season in June, the story notes. The Italian show is set in modern Palermo and chronicles a war between mafia families. The focus is on two women: one who works for a special anti-mafia squad, and another who is a member of a criminal family, the story says.
