The Screen Actors Guild and the broadcast union AFTRA have a message for IMDb: Stop publishing actors’ birthdates, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker blog.
The reason behind the request is the concern that actors may lose out on parts if casting personnel find out their real ages.
"When their actual ages then become known to casting personnel, the 10+ year age range that many of them can portray suddenly shrinks, and so do their opportunities to work," the unions said in a release.

Why stop there? Force IMDB to remove any screen credit for films that have received a less than ‘fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes and ban all photos where ‘that thing on my chin’ is too noticeable…

One thing that they are not thinking about… show prep services. When radio and TV give out their real ages, derived from show prep and news agencies. Are they going to tell all of the show prep services and news agencies to stop doing this as well? And who is to say that someone else might not post up ages, after IMDB stops?
