The man who called himself "The King of Infomercials" on his website was found dead Sunday in an Arizona jail cell, reports CBSNews.com.

Don Lapre, who was about to stand trial in a $52 million fraud case, apparently committed suicide, the story notes.

As TVWeek reported in June, Lapre had been charged with 41 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud and promotional money laundering with his company, The Greatest Vitamin in the World, the piece notes.

His late-night commercials, such as "Making Money from a Tiny One Bedroom Apartment," had been parodied on "Saturday Night Live" and targeted by jokes on "Late Show with David Letterman," the story says. Lapre’s company shut down in 2007 after multiple complaints, the piece adds.
