Veteran “Nightline” anchor Ted Koppel, rumored for weeks to be negotiating to join NBC’s new Brian Williams newsmagazine, is officially a part of the show, Bloomberg Businessweek reports.

NBC News confirmed that the longtime ABC News mainstay will be a special correspondent for “Rock Center with Brian Williams,” the story reports.

Koppel spent 42 years with ABC News, most notably as the anchor of “Nightline” for 25 years, before leaving the network in 2005.

Williams, whose hourlong “Rock Center” debuts Oct. 31, said of Koppel: “It’s an enormous honor to work with this giant and former competitor.”

Koppel, who began his career as a page at NBC News, has won 41 Emmys, eight Peabodys and the 2011 Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award for his work at ABC, NPR and Discovery, the story notes.
