Nick Jonas and Bernadette Peters have been added to the roster of stars who will appear in NBC’s midseason musical drama series "Smash," about the staging of a big Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Jonas, part of the Jonas Brothers singing group, will play Lyle West, a sitcom star who got his start on a Broadway show written by two of the characters on "Smash."

Tony Award-winning actress Peters, who has starred on Broadway in "Sunday in the Park with George," "Into the Woods" and "Gypsy," among others, has been cast as Ivy’s (Megan Hilty) mother, Leigh Conroy.

Like Peters, her character is a Tony-winning actress, but she’s currently living her life through her daughter.

"Smash" is slated to bow in 2012, airing on Monday nights.
