Report Lists 11 Network Shows at Risk of Being Canceled

Oct 20, 2011  •  Post A Comment

With the television season just a few weeks old, 11 shows are "on the bubble" — meaning that they are at risk for cancellation, reports TVGuide.com, which bases its list on the shows’ ratings.

CBS’s "Hawaii Five-0" made the list, even though it often wins its time period with viewers 18 to 49, the story points out. The reason the program made the list is because its second season so far is averaging about 10 million viewers, down from the 14 million that watched the show’s debut a year ago, the story says.

Also on the list is NBC’s "Community," a critically acclaimed comedy that has attracted guest stars such as John Goodman and "The Wire" actor Michael Kenneth Williams, the piece says. Despite the creative achievement of recent episode "Remedial Chaos Theory," the show is averaging just 3.7 million viewers per episode, which the article calls "an abysmal number."

The full list is below:

1. "Body of Proof" (ABC)

2. "Community" (NBC)

3. "CSI: NY" (CBS)

4. "Fringe" (Fox)

5. "A Gifted Man" (CBS)

6. "Harry’s Law" (NBC)

7. "Hawaii Five-0" (CBS)

8. "Nikita" (CW)

9. "Pan Am" (ABC)

10. "Prime Suspect" (NBC)

11. "Unforgettable" (CBS)

  1. Harry’s Law was a quirky, fun, show last year with great young and old characters mixing together in a shoe store/law office. This year, it has turned into Boston Law 2.0, but worse. Oh David E. Kelley, why did you screw with a show that was a lovely, surprise hit last year!

  2. This list is WAY OFF!
CSI: NY is nowhere close to being cancelled. (1) It does well for a friday night and (2) It is a money maker for CBS, Internationally.
HAWAII FIVE-O Is not only far away from cancellation, it will get renewed for a 3rd season. This is a CBS produced property and it will make it to syndication.
NAKITA – To many other issues on the CW. Its a “CW” produced property and it does just as well as the Mon – Thur shows, on a Friday.
UNFORGETTABLE will be moved before it is axed.
    #1 should be PAN AM
    #2 – PRIME SUSPECT
    #3 – MAN UP!
    #4 – A GIFTED MAN
    #5 – Yet to debut GRIMM/ONE UPON A TIME
    #7 – HAPPY ENDINGS
    #8 – BODY OF PROOF
#9 – COMMUNITY (although Universal does own part & they are pushing for syndication already)
    #10 – FRINGE

  3. I agree with the first comment regarding Harry’s Law. Last year it was great, and this year, well, it’s not. “If it works, fix it?”
A Gifted Man. I couldn’t watch it; who cares about a guy who’s an arse hole?
Hawaii 5-0 isn’t so bad. It’s not great, but it is watchable.
Don’t kill Fringe! This year is really different from the previous ones, but I’m really curious to find out what’s going to happen, now that Walter’s son is back!

  4. It is simply stunning just how very bad Harry’s Law has become. I’ve never seen a show so thoroughly destroyed in such a short time. It’s tragic.
As for Fringe, we have the opposite situation. It is probably the finest scripted series on Television this season. It’s well written, well acted and tightly produced.
Let’s just hope viewers and networks recognize the difference.

  6. so true

  7. They should put Body of Proof back in its Sunday night spot when they cancel the dismal Pan Am. That would help.

  8. This is really kind of a stupid list. How can Body of Proof and Unforgettable BOTH be in danger, when another show they are opposite–Parenthood–is not even listed. Both of them kill Parenthood in the ratings. It also gets me that (in another story) a show is doing badly if it only gets 10 million viewers when last year it got 14 million. And other networks limp along w/1 million and isn’t at risk. Strange world.

  9. Totally depressing! Fringe and Community are never miss shows for my family. I also watch Body of Proof, Prime Suspect, and Unforgettable on DVR or Primetime on Demand.

  10. The networks need to take a look at themselves. The networks either put a new great show up against one or two proven shows knowing they don’t have a chance. They also go weeks in between showing great shows and people lose interest or even forget what happened in the last episode. Maybe before cancelling so fast you might try a new time slot. SO many of the same reality or 20/20 kind of shows. I like A Gifted Man very much. Try them only on demand but give them some advertising so people hear about them at least. Just as Playboy Club started to have a bit of a plot that was interesting to those of us that lived during that era you axed it. I think you need to get some new talent making these bad decisions. I don’t need any more remakes of old shows. I watched them once when they were originals. Give the new writers a chance.
