Verdict Appears to Be In After Big Gamble by DC Comics

DC Comics startled fans of Superman, the Justice League and other legendary superheroes in June when the publisher said it would reset all its continuing series and reintroduce the characters — restarting its numbering sequences at No. 1, reports The New York Times.

That gambit appears to have paid off, with the first issue of the new Justice League selling more than 200,000 copies, compared with roughly 46,000 for each of the issues before the do-over, the story notes.

Nine other series, including Batgirl and the Flash, have doubled their normal sales and sold more than 100,000 copies, a level of sales that the story says has been increasingly difficult for publishers to hit in what had been a declining market for comic books.
