Ricky Gervais, whose awards show hosting gigs have produced, um, mixed results (to put it delicately), says he’s ready to step in following the departure of Eddie Murphy as host of the upcoming Oscars, THR reports.
Defying predictions after a poorly received performance at the previous Golden Globes, the comedian is already reportedly in talks for a return as Globes host. Now he says he would be willing to do both ceremonies.
“I’ll do it,” he said of the Academy Awards. “I’ll be in town anyway for the Globes.”
He appears to be mining the situation for comedy material, saying he would cut his fee to take both jobs. “I can knock off 20 percent,” he said. “Two for one deal. I’ll just stay up there.”
Gervais did meet recently with NBC and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association about the possibility of returning as Golden Globes host, the story notes.
He said of the possibility: “They haven’t asked me officially yet, and I don’t know whether I’d say yes. It’s very tempting. It’s tempting [because] for three hours, I’m the most feared man in LA, so that’s nice.”
