A drama about the first U.S. female detective is in development at USA Network, reports Deadline.com.

USA, which is home to the female-focused spy drama "Covert Affairs," will highlight the life of Kate Warne, a detective who also worked as a spy for the Union government during the Civil War, the story says.

Warne joined the Pinkerton Detective Agency in 1856, and uncovered a plot to assassinate Abraham Lincoln when he was the president elect, the story says. That event will become the center of the pilot script, the piece adds.

The project will be written and co-executive produced by Adam Sussman and produced by Sony Pictures TV, according to the story.
