Longtime friends and "American Idol" executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick are leaving the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Idol Worship.

Formal exit discussions haven’t yet started, the story notes. The Fox singing competition has suffered a ratings decline, with its season 12 finale down more than 40% when compared with the show’s 2011 finale.

This past weekend, a meeting was called to go over issues facing the program, the piece notes. The struggles have led to the departure of most of the judging panel, including Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj.

Judge Keith Urban’s future on the show hasn’t yet been determined, the piece adds.
