Gameplay HD Plots Course

Oct 19, 2006  •  Post A Comment

Voom’s Gameplay HD is gearing up to announce a series of documentaries as the network fortifies its programming strategy.
The first episode will go behind the scenes of the latest installment of the highly popular online role-playing game, “Guild Wars Nightfall.”
The one-hour documentary will run Oct. 27, the game’s release date. A copy of the documentary will also be packaged with the collector’s edition of the game, helping introduce the network’s brand to gamers.
The move comes as Gameplay, a network in the Voom HD suite, finds itself in a fortuitous branding position. Competition for viewers who also happen to be fans of gaming appears to be getting lighter.
Comcast-funded rival G4 has been moving away from programming tied to video games, acquiring series such as “Arrested Development,” “Star Trek” and “The Man Show” in hopes of becoming a more general-interest young men’s entertainment channel.
Last week, former E! Networks head Ted Harbert was appointed to the newly created position of president and CEO of Comcast Entertainment Group, which includes G4. Mr. Harbert reiterated that G4 is going to continue its generalist course.
This leaves Gameplay HD as the only network strictly devoted to gaming, and in HD to boot.
“We’ve noticed [G4 has] adopted more conventional entertainment programming in many prime-time slots,” said Greg Moyer, general manager of Voom HD Networks, “which is fine for them, but our singular mission here at Gameplay is to stay focused on the gaming experience.”
Gameplay HD has more than 150 hours of original programming. The network is currently making programming plans timed to the November release of the Playstation3 game console, which will be bundled with a Blu-ray HD player.

  13. In corresponding reports, the Wayans brothers need to cast Tiger woods in their subsequent film but they can not determine if the title should really be White Chicks eleven or 12 ?

  14. The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it’ll do even better in those areas, but for now it’s a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod’s strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

  15. If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
