New York’s public broadcasting channel WLIW this fall will debut an international news program, “Your World Tonight,” replacing “BBC World News” after their distribution contract ends.
The program will be a half-hour featuring information and commentary on events around the world. “Your World Tonight” serves as the show’s working title.
“‘Your World Tonight’ is a newscast developed specifically to present a variety of international news perspectives to an American audience,” Educational Broadcasting Corp. President-CEO Neal Shapiro said in a release. “As the nation’s most trusted public institution, it is our responsibility to present a news program that is international in scope and independent of the pressures of commercial television.”
“After collegial discussion with the [British Broadcasting Corp.] about our different views on content and distribution, we mutually decided to end distribution of ‘BBC World News’ when our contract expires in October,” said Terrel Cass, WLIW New York president and general manager.
“Your World Tonight” will premiere in October on New York’s WLIW and WNET outlets; it also will be available to public broadcasting stations across the country.
Former “CBS Evening News” senior producer Marc Rosenwasser will serve as executive producer.
