If the Federal Communications Commission does, in fact, open unused television channels for use by wireless devices as it suggested should be done earlier this week, backers of the proposed idea see a rise in new handheld gadgets with extra features such as high-definition video, Reuters reports. “The industry in general is all ready to gear up to put out devices as soon as possible,” Philips’ Monisha Ghosh told the newswire. “I’d estimate within a year you’d see a fair number of different applications.” One of those applications is what some are calling “Wi-Fi on steroids.” The application would make wireless networking faster and more effective.
