Oprah Winfrey Named in Plagiarism Suit Seeking $1 Trillion (No, That’s Not a Typo)

Aug 7, 2009  •  Post A Comment

A poet named Damon Lloyd Goffe has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Oprah Winfrey seeking an astounding $1 trillion, NBC Chicago reports.

Goffe wrote "A Tome of Poetry" which he claims has been substantially used/plagiarized in Winfrey’s Internet-published work "Pieces of My Soul."

In a suit filed at the District of Columbia Court on July 31, Goffe declared that Winfrey admitted she used his original works in 2008.

Goffe’s lawyers have estimated the damages — a vast amount — based on the fact that reportedly 650 million copies of "Pieces of My Soul" were sold online.
