What Does New York Need? Time Warner Cable Believes It’s a 24-Hour Traffic Channel

New York has almost anything that a consumer might want — except for a 24-hour traffic channel, reports Multichannel News. Time Warner Cable has taken note of that and is preparing to debut a NY1-branded channel that will provide traffic and commuter info to New York-area residents, the story says.

The channel, called NY1 Traffic, is part of a push from Time Warner Cable to provide a service that its competitors don’t offer, the story says. It’s especially trying to offer more than Verizon’s FiOS, which is adding customers throughout the area.

The network is scheduled to debut on channel 104 for customers in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island, and on channel 91 for New Jersey and Hudson Valley subscribers, the article adds. The channel could be on the air as early as Aug. 18.
