A CNN anchor has offered an apology for a comment she made during coverage of the Baltimore rioting. The New York Daily News reports that Brooke Baldwin issued the apology Wednesday after getting blowback over a comment some observers found to be critical of veterans.

Baldwin said during an interview with U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings: “A lot of these young people, and I love our nation’s veterans, but some of them are coming back from war, they don’t know the communities, and they’re ready to do battle.” (See clip below.)

Soon after the clip aired, social media erupted in protest, with some calling for Baldwin’s firing.

Baldwin later apologized on-air, saying in part, “I wholeheartedly retract what I said.”

She also tweeted about the incident, writing: ‘I am sorry for what I said earlier about veterans. It was wrong and I apologize to anyone who was hurt by my comments.”

Here’s the clip of Baldwin’s original comment, followed by her on-air apology:

  1. She should be fired. MSNBC would hire her after it cools down.
