Oct 31, 2016  •  Post A Comment

Actress and pop singer Hilary Duff and her boyfriend were apologizing after the costumes they wore to a Halloween party created a backlash online. Time magazine reports that Duff dressed as a sexy pilgrim while her boyfriend, trainer Jason Walsh, went as a Native American.

The couple “donned the costumes for the annual Casamigos Halloween party in Los Angeles Friday evening,” Time reports. “By Sunday, both of them had taken to social media to apologize for not being thoughtful with their outfit choices.”

Duff sent out a tweet Sunday saying: “I am SO sorry to people I offended with my costume. It was not properly thought through and I am truly, from the bottom of my [heart emoji] sorry.”

Walsh sent out an apology on Instagram, writing: “I meant no disrespect. I only have admiration for the indigenous people of America. In hindsight I would not have made that decision. I apologize to anyone I may have offended.”

  1. What is so offensive about that. It won’t be long before someone will be offended if you go as yourself. People, please it is Halloween, anyone should be able to go as anything they want. If people are offended that easy, they should stay at home with the doors and curtains closed. I’m part Cherokee and I’m not offended.

  2. Stop with the “cultural appropriation” nonsense. There is no “cultural appropriation”. When you realize that WE are all “the people” of this one world and that the human race is the only race, then the term becomes intellectually vacuous because the only “culture” that exists is human culture.

    And we all share it.

People who get worked up about “cultural appropriation” like to pigeonhole people. They can’t accept others as individual human beings… you have to belong to something… you have to be a part of something… and that’s all. You can’t be just be… you.

Cultural appropriation warriors are nothing more than labelers.

    • Way to get after ’em, Johnny … you’re like a snake eating its own tail!
