An actress who had a string of television roles over the past 20 years was found dead in a hotel room in Lima, Peru. Lisa Lynn Masters, who was seen recently as Dr. Goodman on “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and Dr. Laurel Kennedy on “Nashville,” reportedly died Tuesday, Nov. 15. She was 52.
E! News quotes a statement received from a spokesperson for the actress that says: “As to her husband and family’s wishes, we hope that the industry can mourn her death without details. In these darkening days, we hope those who have had the pleasure of knowing her will see how brightly she shined and will find that light within themselves and continue to share it with others — just as she would have.”
E! News adds: “Per the local media report, the ‘Ugly Betty’ actress was found inside of her closet and appeared to have hanged herself with her skirt. Police officials also claimed to have found anti-depressants inside of her hotel room at the time of the investigation.”
Masters’ other TV roles included “Gossip Girl” and “Royal Pains.” She also had a number of small film roles, including the 2013 indie film “Blumenthal,” and performed off-Broadway.
The Omaha native grew up in Asheville, N.C., and studied journalism at Columbia University in New York before opting instead for a career in acting. After cutting her teeth in commercials, the former model showed her versatility by playing quirky comedic roles while also portraying powerful, elegant women.
