NBC News unveiled its new prime-time Megyn Kelly program Sunday night, and the premiere of “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly” chalked up a number of ratings achievements.
Citing Nielsen “live plus same day” data, NBC noted today that “Kelly,” which aired at 7 p.m. and featured a high-profile sitdown interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin, topped CBS’s “60 Minutes” in the key 18-49 and 25-54 demos. However, “60 Minutes,” which aired an encore, still won total viewers, delivering 6.5 million to “Kelly’s” 6.1 million.
In the key news demo of viewers 25-54, “Megyn Kelly” averaged a 1.2 rating to top “60 Minutes'” 0.9 average.
“60 Minutes” is an entrenched ratings magnet in the 7 p.m. hour on Sundays, averaging 12.4 million total viewers during the 2016-2017 broadcast season.
NBC noted that “Megyn Kelly” delivered the network’s biggest non-sports audience in the time slot since March 2016, and that “Kelly” topped NBC’s average in the slot last summer by 33% in adults 18-49 (0.8 vs. 0.6, L+SD, excluding sports) and by 69% or 2.5 million persons in total viewers (6.140 million vs. 3.635 million).
I hope NBC gets burned on that show
