A group of Hollywood stars and filmmakers have come together to put on an alternative to Donald Trump’s upcoming State of the Union address.

The AP reports that Mark Ruffalo, Lee Daniels, Michael Moore and Whoopi Goldberg are among those who will attend “The People’s State of the Union,” an evening of speeches and music. The event is billed as a “public alternative” to Trump’s first State of the Union address.

“The event is planned for Monday, the day before Trump’s speech, at The Town Hall, an historic venue in Manhattan founded as a meeting spot for suffragists more than 90 years ago,” the AP reports. Among those slated to perform are Andra Day and Common, who will sing their Grammy- and Oscar-nominated song ‘Stand Up for Something’ from the film ‘Marshall.’”

Ruffalo is quoted saying the evening will be an “inspirational event where activists and influencers join together to articulate a positive vision for our future, and how we’re going to win our country back.”

Unions, organizers of the Women’s March and Planned Parenthood are among the hosts of the event, which will be livestreamed at peoplessotu.org.

Additionally, Alyssa Milano plans to launch an initiative, #StateOfTheDream, on Tuesday to support immigrants and raise money for the immigrant youth-focused United We Dream.

  1. Why aren’t they doing it the same time as the speech? Afraid no one would watch?

  2. It will be his second SOTU.

    • Really? When was the first?

    • This will be Trump’s first. The one he gave in February 2017 was officially an address to a joint session of Congress, not a State of the Union.
