Ricky Gervais will make his return to scripted TV, starring in a new comedy series that he created, “After Life,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports.
The half-hour limited series has been set up at Netflix, where it has a six-episode order. Gervais will also direct and executive produce.
The show follows a string of Gervais TV shows including “Extras,” “Life’s Too Short” and the original U.K. version of “The Office.”
“The series revolves around Tony (Gervais), who had a perfect life. But after his wife Lisa suddenly dies, Tony changes,” THR notes. “After contemplating taking his own life, he decides instead to live long enough to punish the world by saying and doing whatever he likes from now on. He thinks it’s like a Superpower — not caring about himself or anyone else — but it turns out to be tricky when everyone is trying to save the nice guy they used to know.”
