“The franchise might be over, but the juicy behind-the-scenes information keeps coming out,” The New York Post reports in a story delving into why the proposed film “Sex and the City 3” didn’t get made.

According to The Post, the plan was to kill off Mr. Big, played by Chris Noth. The character was supposed to die of a heart attack, the story reports, citing an interview with cast members and creators of the HBO series on journalist James Andrew Miller’s “Origins” podcast.

The report says Big was supposed to die “relatively early” in the movie after suffering a heart attack in the shower.

“This isn’t merely a surprising twist — it’s what ultimately drove the nail in the coffin of the next big-screen installment,” The Post reports. “According to cast members interviewed on the podcast, the film’s focus on Carrie’s recovery from Big’s death diminished Samantha’s (Kim Cattrall) role, which was why Cattrall declined to return. (She also opted out of appearing on the podcast.)”

Miller is quoted saying: “People close to Kim believe that the script didn’t have a lot to offer the character of Samantha. They point to the fact that it calls for Mr. Big to die of a heart attack in the shower, relatively early on in the film, making the remainder of the movie more about how Carrie recovers from Big’s death than about the relationship between the four women.”
