TV Reporter Fired Over Incident at Car Show

A television reporter was fired after drawing criticism for his antics while covering a car show for KMAX-TV in Sacramento, Calif.

The station fired Angel Cardenas following his report Sunday morning for “Good Day Sacramento” from the Sacramento International Auto Show, according to media reports. Video of the report showed Cardenas jumping on top of classic cars to strike poses, and apparently bumping into one car with another car’s door.

“Viewer Adam Copeland, who caught the segment live on air, posted a clip of the newsman’s shenanigans to Facebook and said he’s ‘never seen such a disregard for someone else’s vehicle,'” The New York Post reports.

Cardenas says during the segment: “No one is out here to tell me which car I can’t go in, because some of these are off-limits, so I’m just going to live on the wild side.” He then jumps onto a yellow Thunderbird to strike a pose.

Moments later he quips, “I feel like a kid in a candy store without the owner, because you can do anything,” and then appears to ding one car when he opens the door of another.

“’Nobody’s looking,’ he said as he quickly checked for any possible damage,” The Post reports, adding: “He’s shown briefly interviewing a Ford representative at the expo, before jumping on top of one more vehicle — a new 2020 Ford Explorer Hybrid — which he was ordered to ‘get off.’”

Auto show producer Stacey Castle Bascom is quoted telling the Sacramento Bee: “This was an isolated incident with a rogue reporter and fortunately neither one of the cars was damaged. I reached out immediately to the management of the station calling for an apology to all involved in the incident. I received a call from KMAX yesterday and was informed the reporter in question was no longer in their employ.”

  1. Jerk.

  2. Hopefully Angel’s job will given to a qualified American journalist…no more Hispanic buffoons.

    • Not sure why I’m even dignifying your ridiculous comment with a reply, but what does his ethnicity have to do with anything? Are you saying only white people are qualified to be news reporters?

  3. No, he is saying only white people are qualified to buffoons. Check Twitter.

  4. Oh yes he did act like a buffoon; however, this was a matter of an Immature, “Let me break all rules & do what I want” attitude! The fact that our current society would rather blame everything & everyone, rather than take personal responsibility for their behavior is what feeds this idiousy… Furthermore the people who put their time, money, work, & yes love into restoring these vehicles to “show quality”, so that people can enjoy the beauty & art it these displays deserve so much more respect than that.

One final point I am Hispanic, I am No Buffoon, & I know better than to call out a person based on their ethnicity, rather than on their behavior.
