Comedian Jerry Lewis spent a second night in the hospital after collapsing Tuesday before a Friars Club event, reports the New York Post’s Page Six. He was expected to be released Thursday.

As previously reported, Lewis, 86, was rushed to the hospital after he collapsed with low blood sugar. The incident happened shortly before Lewis was set to go on stage to present Tom Cruise with the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award and Lewis was to receive the Applause Award.

Conflicting reports surfaced over Lewis’ condition, with some indicating he was released either late Tuesday or Wednesday, the story says.

"He was kept overnight as a precaution. He gets wrapped up and engrossed in his work, and he forgets to eat. He is diabetic, and it’s important for him to keep those [blood sugar] levels up," said Candi Cazau, his representative, according to the piece.

Cazau said Lewis was taken to the hospital as a precaution because he wasn’t in Las Vegas where his doctors are. “He is feeling great and is anxious to get back up and back to work,” she added.

  1. I would imagine having to give an award to Tom Cruise, only the 3rd actor to ever receive this would be enough to kill him. There has been so many before and after Tom Cruise that would be much more deserving of this award it must come as a shock to the industry that such a low level actor should even be considered for this award. i can’t believe that Jerry was not chosen but tom cruise was?
